Job Overview:
Fairview is looking for an EmPATH/Consult Nurse Practitioner to join our team at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. Our Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment & Healing unit is calming, healing approach to mental health care, offering patients in crisis immediate care from trained health providers in a relaxed environment, with connections to outpatient treatment. With EmPATH, mental health patients undergo a quick medical screening before entering a living-room style setting where they can access the support and care they need to stabilize their situation, receive ongoing human interaction, and in many cases avoid the need for inpatient admission. As a Consult, this position provides expert advice and direct care to patients with acute mental health needs in the hospital's emergency department, other hospital facilities, and potentially through telemedicine.
Practice Details:
- Work within an EmPATH unit, which provides a calming, healing environment for patients who might otherwise be placed in a busy emergency department or experience patient boarding.
- Conduct comprehensive substance use disorder assessments and provide basic treatment for withdrawal symptoms, such as those from alcohol or opioids.
- Evaluate patients with acute behavioral health issues, provide immediate, crisis-focused treatment, and determine the appropriate level of care.
- Offer psychiatric expertise to emergency department providers, other medical teams, and facilities to support their management of patients with mental health challenges.
- Assist in creating discharge plans for patients receiving care in the EmPATH unit or emergency department.
- Work alongside other mental health professionals, including psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, therapists, and nurses.
- Provide consultative support remotely to other healthcare facilities via telemedicine.
Position Information:
- 1.0 FTE (0.6 FTE- EmPATH and 0.4 FTE – Consult)
- Schedule: Includes weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of a school or nursing and accredited Adult or Family (Lifespan) Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist training program.
- BC/BE through the AANP or ANCC.
- Licensed or ability to obtain APRN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
- Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges (if required)
- Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years of advance practice psychiatric practice experience.
