Emergency Medicine - Academic Opportunities in Baltimore, Maryland
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is currently seeking interested candidates with expertise in geriatric emergency medicine for a faculty position. This academic faculty position will work closely with current faculty to grow the Department’s geriatric emergency medicine initiatives and includes significant teaching opportunities with residents, medical students and fellows.
The anticipated rank is Assistant Professor; however, rank and tenure status are dependent upon the candidate’s qualifications.

CLINICAL - We operate the Emergency Departments at four hospitals in the heart of downtown Baltimore:
University of Maryland Medical Center-Downtown Campus, University of Maryland Medical Center-Midtown Campus, Mercy Medical Center, and the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Serving a diverse urban and underserved population, our physicians provide the highest level of care in state-of-the-art facilities.
ACADEMIC - Our Emergency Medicine physicians are faculty members of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the first public medical school in the United States and one of the fastest-growing top-tier biomedical research enterprises in the world. The University of Maryland School of Medicine was ranked 10th in U.S. News & World Report's 2024 rankings of "Best Medical Schools: Primary Care", and 36th in "Best Medical School: Research. Physicians with academic focus will appreciate the variety of opportunities available to them through the School of Medicine, from clinical research initiatives to small group opportunities.
TEACHING - Our physicians are heavily involved in the education of medical students and residents every day. Opportunities abound to teach medical students and residents in lectures, pre-clinical and clinical small groups, and on-shift teaching.
RESEARCH - Our department has numerous resources to assist in research activities in collaboration with the University of Maryland. We have librarian services, technical writer, courses on grant writing and research development and a 3D printer. We collaborate with multiple disciplines and continue to expand our research program.
RESIDENCY AND FELLOWSHIPS- Our Emergency Medicine Residency Program, with over 70 residents, is one of the nation’s largest and most respected. We are the only program in the country to offer training in four tracks: emergency medicine, emergency medicine/pediatrics, emergency medicine/internal medicine, and emergency medicine/internal medicine/critical care.
